What is a Walkshop?

Since 2021, we at the Foundation for the Rights of Future Generations have organised “Walkshops”. This novel learning experience is a combination of educational hiking and discussions. In doing so, Walkshop participants:

  • Listen to educational content while walking through diverse landscapes,
  • Visit learning venues along their route
  • Build on what they have learned and listened to while evening discussions with politicians, scientists, entrepreneurs, activists and citizens.

Through the balanced selection of podcasts, but also through the balanced line-up of panels at the evening discussion events, participants gain a broad and sound understanding of ecological, economic and social developments. To train the participants to become holistically and well-informed multipliers, the curriculum of digital teaching/learning material is compiled in such a way that the perspectives and problem perceptions of different actors are addressed. Thereby, the participants can foster the societal dialogue between various actors

Walk while you Talk

Walkshops encourages the practice of Peripatetics, the fundamental concept of which states that mental agility and physical movement should be intertwined. Walking while talking is a long-understood practice. Aristotle was known to teach while walking, and many famous scientists have reached breakthroughs through the practice as well. With the advent of digital audio podcasts, learning while walking is easier than ever. Hiking signifies an intensification of nature perception, broadening of horizons, deceleration, and a return to human scale. Through the external state of “being in motion” and “being on the way,” an internal journey is simultaneously initiated. The Walkshop seeks to utilise these concepts within Peripatetics to promote learning and discussion.

Make a Difference

The transformation process towards a peaceful world is a societal and global task. To this end, the 2025 Walkshop seeks to encourage the growth of new activists and create ‘peace multipliers’.

Peace multipliers are activists who promote longterm peacekeeping. Engaging in peace-related activities signifies one’s role as a peace multiplier. Through the Walkshop, participants will become peace multipliers and will be provided the information and experience necessary to make a change.

Everyone can become a peace multiplier, and the 2025 Walkshop will equip you with the skills and information needed to make a difference.
