Since 2021, the Foundation for the Rights of Future Generations has pioneered the concept of the 'Walkshop' – a dynamic and immersive learning experience that seamlessly integrates educational hiking with in-depth discussions. Designed to stimulate both body and mind, Walkshops offer participants the opportunity to:
By curating a carefully balanced selection of digital learning materials and expert panels, Walkshops provide participants with a comprehensive and multifaceted understanding of ecological, economic, and social developments. The curriculum is designed to expose participants to a diversity of perspectives, fostering critical thinking and equipping them to serve as well-informed mediators in societal discourse. In doing so, Walkshops empower participants to bridge divides and facilitate dialogue among a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
Walkshops draw inspiration from the Aristotelean tradition of Peripatetics, which asserts that intellectual agility and physical movement are intrinsically linked. Aristotle famously taught while walking, and many great thinkers and scientists have made breakthroughs through this practice. In the digital age, the availability of audio podcasts has made learning while walking more accessible than ever.
Hiking allows a deepened perception of nature, broadens intellectual and personal horizons, and encourages a return to a more human-centered rhythm of life. The act of movement – of being 'in motion' and 'on the way' – is mirrored by an internal journey of reflection, discovery, and transformation. By harnessing these principles, Walkshops create an environment in which learning and discussion unfold organically, encouraging participants to challenge assumptions, exchange ideas, and engage in meaningful intellectual exploration.
The pursuit of a more peaceful world is a collective and intergenerational endeavor. The 2025 Walkshop aims to nurture a new generation of peace advocates: what we call “peace multipliers.” Peace multipliers are individuals who actively promote and sustain long-term peacekeeping efforts. Engaging in peace-related initiatives, whether through advocacy, scholarship, or grassroots activism, signifies one’s role in this broader mission. The Walkshop provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to become agents of meaningful change. Everyone has the capacity to become a peace multiplier. Through this unique program, the 2025 Walkshop will equip participants with the intellectual tools and practical strategies needed to contribute to a more just and peaceful world.
