Walkshop Nuclear Risks  / Longterm Peacekeeping
War does not only hurt nations. It can leave entire generations without the land, infrastructure, or safety they need. With nuclear weapons, humanity now has, for the first time in history, the means to put an end to its own existence. Humanity can lay waste to the Earth at the push of a button, and with new conflicts raging across the globe, nations are more likely to use these weapons than ever before since 1945.
We need solutions.
Peace is not just a fundamental human need, but a key factor for the well-being and development of future generations as well. For these reasons, we, the Foundation for the Rights of Future Generations (FRFG), have chosen the theme “Nuclear Risks and Longterm Peacekeeping” for our 2025 “Walkshop”.
This Walkshop will take place in Scotland from 26 June to 1 July 2025. Over the course of a five-day expedition around Loch Lomond, participants will embark on an immersive learning exploration about nuclear weapons and their far-reaching implications. This journey along the HM Naval Base Clyde – the site of Britain’s nuclear arsenal, in the form of nuclear submarines armed with the Trident missiles – includes visits to the Peace Camp in Faslane, offering firsthand exposure to the stark realities of nuclear deterrence and its effects on local communities. By directly engaging with these historically and politically charged environments, participants will develop a nuanced understanding of the complexities surrounding nuclear policy and the enduring challenges of long-term peacekeeping. Through learning stations and facilitated discussions, they will have the rare opportunity to interact with leading experts and decision-makers in the fields of nuclear disarmament and international security. The Walkshop is more than an academic exercise; it is an intellectually and physically engaging experience that integrates education, critical dialogue, and teamwork. By enabling international exchange, it will create space for discussions on the existential threats posed by nuclear weapons, the specter of human self-annihilation, and the pathways toward a more secure and peaceful future.
